Roger Jungblut, the founder of UAL, has been focused on Africa since 1973. In the early years of the company, he and his management team spent considerable time traveling across the continent to better understand the local conditions. They didn’t just observe from afar, but got hands-on, identifying the logistical challenges in West African ports and working directly on solutions.
This practical approach led to UAL’s first contacts and contracts, with projects such as breweries, airports and LNG plants being transported to various West African countries. Over time, UAL began to specialize in the transportation of project cargo, as well as oil and gas-related shipments.
Even after the discovery of major oil and gas reserves in the 1990s in Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea, Angola and other countries, port congestion continued to be a significant challenge. In response, UAL took the bold step of building its own port in one of the most strategic locations for the oil and gas industry in West Africa: the K5 Freeport & Oil Centre on Bioko Island, Equatorial Guinea.
At UAL Alliance, thinking "outside the box" is second nature. We take pride in our strong African roots built over the past four decades, as they form the foundation of our innovative, practical, and effective approach.
