Capelle a/d IJssel, The Netherlands and Georgetown, Guyana, May 2026
UAL has successfully completed the first call at the Oko West private dock in Guyana as part of the recently launched UAL Caribbean Shuttle service. The operation included transportation and discharge of heavy lift cargo through a tailored ship-to-ship transshipment solution using the mv UAL Transporter.
The shipment consisted of generators destined for remote mining operations, where conventional port infrastructure is limited. Thanks to the vessel’s landing craft design and shallow draft, cargo was discharged directly via the bow ramp, enabling safe and efficient delivery close to the project site.
“This shipment demonstrates exactly why the UAL Caribbean Shuttle was introduced,” said Martijn Hordijk. “The combination of fixed regional schedules, multipurpose cargo capability and ramp discharge operations creates solutions for locations where traditional liner services cannot operate.”
The operation marks another milestone for the UAL Caribbean Shuttle, connecting Trinidad & Tobago, Guyana and Suriname with reliable short-sea shipping solutions for containers, RoRo, breakbulk and project cargo.
