Universal Africa Lines (UAL) is pleased to announce the restart of its direct liner service between North West Europe and East Africa, with the first sailing scheduled for February 2026 and regular monthly sailings thereafter. UAL has been running liner services to and from West Africa for over 50 years, and has now expanded it services to reach East Africa.
A key feature of the service is the strong focus on both directions. In addition to delivering cargo from Europe into East and South Africa, UAL will actively develop return cargo flows back to Europe. This creates balanced trade opportunities and ensures reliable, sustainable monthly sailings for exporters and importers alike.
The service will run from North West Europe to Mozambique (incl. Afungi), Tanzania, Kenya and South Africa. It will be a new direct liner service (no transhipments) with monthly sailings straight to Mozambique, and will be operated in addition to our existing services to West Africa. Sailings will be perfomed by UAL's modern box-shaped geared fleet capable of handling breakbulk, bulk, project cargoes, heavy lifts and containers.
“We are very pleased to restart our direct service to East and South Africa,” says Harald Maas, Director of Universal Africa Lines B.V.
“The region continues to show strong long-term potential, particularly within energy, infrastructure, mining and industrial projects. Equally important, we see significant opportunities in developing return cargo volumes back to Europe, strengthening trade flows in both directions. With our experience, fleet and organization, we are confident in delivering the same high level of service our customers know from our other African trades.”
The restart underlines UAL’s long-term commitment to the African market and its ability to respond to evolving customer demand with flexible and dependable shipping solutions.
